Hands up for HIV Prevention- Human chain and street plays organised by Sarva Seva Sangh

HIV prevention is the key. World AIDS day was observed today, 1st December with a Human Chain by Sarva Seva Sangh, an organisation working with people and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, Holy Spirit Hospital and Mahakali Caves Road ALM for public awareness. The Human Chain was organised on Mahakali Caves Road, Andheri (E) from 9 am to 9.30 am involving students of Sri Satya Sai Vidya Mandir and Nursing students of Holy Spirit Nursing School. After the human chain there was a public meeting at Holy Spirit Hospital. During the meeting, Dr. Neelam spoke about the menace of HIV/AIDS and the social workers from Creative Handicrafts highlighted matters to be aware through visuals and stories. Nursing students from Holy Spirit Nursing School and students from St. Teresa’s Institute of Education, Santacruz (W) presented role play and street play on HIV/AIDS, which reiterated the aspect of discrimination and victimisation. Nearly 300 people participated in the human chain and the meeting which ended at 11 o’ clock.
Earlier during the week, Sarva Seva Sangh put up street plays with the help of St. Teresa’s Institute of Education for HIV/AIDS awareness at Mahakali Caveas road area, SEEPZ and Meghwadi. With the help of social work students from College of Social Work Nirmala Niketan, Sarva Seva Sangh also organised Poster exhibition on the theme ‘Hands up for HIV Prevention’ at Shankarwadi, Jogeswari (E) and SEEPZ yesterday and today. Hundreds of people were made aware of the menace of HIV/AIDS through these initiatives.
